Summary: Naruto admits he's not very smart when it comes to mind games, but dealing with the well-adjusted, rational female mind (not) might be the straw to have him picking up his deceased sensei's hermit ways.

He asked Hinata to join him for ramen once but for some reason she went all red (was she mad?) in a way that made him nervous like when he was surrounded by Ino's glass flower vases, then promptly passed out. And when Sakura-chan found out after Kiba freaked and dragged her over to bring Hinata around, she got all red and Naruto didn’t have to be a genius to figure out she was really really really mad.
Girls were weird.
…But Naruto vowed to himself he would never ask Hinata to join him ever again. Not if he wanted another table smashed onto his head again, and being called a 'misleading womanizing jerk following his perverted sensei's footsteps' by several other girls throughout the day.
A few hours after his rather impressive concussion subsided (because Sakura never did things halfway, something he always admired about her, even if he was on the unfortunate end of it), he asked Sakura if she'd go out to dinner with him as a gesture to beg for her forgiveness. She looked down and went red in a cute way that made his stomach do backflips, then asked, "Why...why do you..."
"Huh?"
She looked at him oddly. "If you really like someone like Hinata, Naruto, maybe you should start pushing that relationship. I mean, she definitely has," Sakura went redder, something sad flashed across her eyes, "...a lot of curves...that boys like..."
"Huh? But...what...I..." He was just asking her out for ramen! Why was her hand still on the door like she was going to close it, why wasn't she looking at him! In his head he could practically hear Jiraiya muttering, 'Danger! Danger! You're going down if you don't do something brat!'
Or that might still be his concussion.
Either way finally something came to him! He grinned, and said with all honesty, "But there is no one as cute as Sakura-chan!"
She gave him an incredulous look.
Naruto waited a beat, thinking of his late teacher in a moment of respect, then rubbed the back of his head awkwardly, "The Pervert and I had really different tastes." He swallowed, feeling nervous as he asked again, "So...can I treat you ramen? Or...it doesn't even have to be ramen because you say you don't like it that much so we can maybe go to another stand or just walk around if that's what you really want--"
"...okay."
"Huh?" He looked at her bug-eyed.
She finally smiled. And that made him flip again in a pleasant way like when Iruka-sensei gave him a hug, because he liked making her happy.
But then she snapped a second later over crossed arms only if he didn't call it a date.
"Huh?!"

I especially liked Sakura getting violently jealous of Naruto with another girl but then insisting that they weren't dating at the end lulz
