I guess thanks to the hawt sex in acacciabrown's and stereotypevamp's fics I'm all OTP'ed out. xD

Although...this does take precedent over any pairing I could possibly have in Naruto. Sort of like in Buffy the Vampire Slayer--for some reason any interaction with Buffy and Giles glued me to the screen/page more than any sex scene with Angel or Spike (I'm weird). It's the parental angst, it gets me every time. Well, that and Naruto are Iruka are so frigging cute. It's sad and poignant: you have a jaded ninja who finds this great kid who's as lonely as he is and he fell in love with him. And though it is a Kishimoto Standard that all males in the Naruto-verse are emotionally retarded, Naruto and Iruka never really seem sure of what to say, though you know the truth by how they look at one another. Naruto's nervous because well the last person he forgot to show gratitude for was Sasuke and he took off. Iruka loved his family and they died. So do they jump for it or try to hold back while they can? I would love, love, LOVE one simple filler scene in the manga where Naruto accidentally calls Iruka-sensei "Dad." (Sorry to Minato lovers, but I would root for Iruka in a custodial fight xD).

Everyone in the series has a "special person." Sasuke's is, in a twisted way, Itachi. Sakura's is, in a beautiful way, her teammates. Naruto's is Sasuke. And Iruka's...is Naruto.

Regardless, since Naruto is obviously not the main character in the manga anymore (xD) here's a mix for my fav nonOTP: Secret Pervert, Sad Iruka-sensei and his blond blockhead dead last, Naruto, from a small boy to the young man Iruka's so proud of today.

I actually found this to be very Iruka. The kind of guy who keeps his irritation locked in and has Very Bad Days, and generally avoids people. From the few scenes he's been in with other adults, he either ignores them or they ignore him.

Later he does admit that if Iruka hadn't reached out he would have spiraled into Gaara. He caused trouble and though he was hated and it wasn't love, it was attention so he kept throwing crap at society and took off running.

And Iruka who’s constantly chasing after him, or at least the only one able to keep up.

Where everyone's hatred of Naruto is constant, very early on it's shown Iruka's soft spot for him. He doesn't want to be cruel to Naruto, instead he does what no one ever does:

This is so the ULTIMATE Daddy Song. Oh god, I tear up and my heart pulls everytime I hear this song or any of its reprises in the movie. It's just so warm and comforting. Pretty much the only “honeymoon period” song they have, since right after they move closer Naruto’s shipped off to be nearly hacked into itty bitty gaki pieces by Zabuza.

(And I bet that's the first hug Naruto's given and recieved...ever.)

Okay so, not only does Naruto nearly get killed in what, his first month of being a ninja from a C...A...S class mission, fighting all the time with the Leaf's darling Uchiha, and still unbelievably clumsy, now we have the Chunnin exams where over 80% DIE in the FIRST ROUND? Can you blame Iruka for biting his fingernails to stubs? Yeesh Kakashi, did you have to be that harsh? *beats up him and Kurenai and Asuma* Leave him alone! He's parentally and adorably angsting! I suppose that's the problem: most parents give birth to babies, Iruka finally "had" him he was already thirteen years old.

Ye Gods--Naruto actually made it out of the Chunnin exams one, and later two, alive. The whole villiage has imploded but whatever. And then Orochimaru does his...thing, and his Flying Monkey still nearly got pwned by a thirteen year old.. Naruto and Iruka only get a few normal days. ;( But the boy needs them, and so does he. His fondness for Naruto even when he's being his stubborn, pouting self never fails to strike me as the cutest, most heartwarming moments in the entire series.

God, thanks for creating this -- I have to say that the Iruka/Naruto relationship was the first dynamic in Naruto that I loved (and still do). It's astounding how overlooked the relationship is, in spite of Iruka really being a father figure to Naruto. I think your comments on this all very appropriate -- it's really nice and refreshing.

As an old time BTVS fan, I understand what you're saying about Buffy/Giles - I think it was a wonderful relationship. I think Giles proved, in many instances, to have been a better father than Hank Summers.

If I weren't suffering from my another bout of writer's angst/block (the one that makes you think you suck and so forth), I would feel prompted to write fic.

I read a one-shot once where Iruka applied to adopt Naruto but the council rejected it on the grounds that...well, they hate Naruto. And the sadness stayed with me because....*angsts*

Yay! There's all these fics now where Minato comes back from the dead and is with Naruto and they all completely forget about Iruka. Or, these fics where deep into the first arc Naruto uses a clone to look like his dad, which confuses me and...I just don't get -why- I like Iruka-centrics. *thud* Sorry for rambling, the cute does that to my brain. ^^;

I absolutely love Iruka/Naruto, it's such a powerful relationship that's never really touched on much in the manga and that's really disappointing. It's such a strong relationship for Naruto to reflect on from time to time (especially after Sasuke's leaving) but it seems Kishimoto would rather focus on other things. People like you, who acknowledge the parent/child feelings they have for each other, make the lack of it in the manga well worth it because you really put your whole heart into.

I'm looking forward to listening to this FST, because you've chosen some great music for it. Thanks so much for posting it!

The only way I see Iruka is if he's...well, with Kakashi. >< And no offese to shippers, but that pairing really turns me off. I've never seen him bashed, I can't believe anyone could! :O (But then, Sakura-bashers amaze me too so whatever...actually any character bashing but that's another rant all together)

I really really hope those scenes get lengthened! I think the animators have been doing that lately to avoid more fillers since they were so horrible. The constant Deidara and Kakashi and Naruto scenes were really...pointless. But I hope they use that amount of time with more Iruka scenes! <3

Amazingly enough, I have most of these songs already!
And yes yes YES!! The whole dynamic angst between Iruka and Naruto was what got me hooked on the series!

Sadly, the series itself didn't keep up with the whole bang and drama as the first impression it gave to the audience (nor did it continue with a character that, according to the first episode, is an important factor to the main character) which is why I have found myself no longer as much of a fan as I used to.

Still, it hasn't stopped me from seeking out Iruka-centric fanfics. Meh well! ^_^;;

Just...WORD to that entire thing. :D Looking back, the rumor that Sasuke was really a girl had me raising an eyebrow before I shrugged it off and went to Yugioh, but it was Iruka and Naruto that sucked me in. I mean, EVERY time Naruto talks about people who saved him, first is Iruka, then Sasuke and then everyone else, I don't understand why Kakashi is seen more important when in canon Naruto never thinks of him as that all important father-bond figure. Dammit Kishi, after you're done screwing with Pein and Jiraiya give me more Naruto and Iruka! D;
