[Fic] Naruto: Naruto/Sakura: Popular Mechanics Cont'd
Yay new layout. :D
It figures after reading more SasukexNaruto stories and plotting more slash in my head...I end up writing NarutoxSakura. *thud* I think I need my head examined...

Listening
“Because you know how much strain this puts on your heart, Naruto--Kyuubi only makes it harder for me to help you in the long run. If you must keep trying to kill yourself, I suggest...”
Her voice droned in and out, as it always did when Naruto was listening, because he couldn't help but stare at her. Sakura-chan was so cute, so pretty and just... cuuuuuuute. Her pink hair. Her green eyes. Her mouth--slightly frowning--moving as she spoke words to him.
"Naruto."
Cute voice too...
"Naruto..."
Completely focused on him...and he liked the way his name sounded on her tongue...
"Naruto you fucking idiot!"
He suppressed a cry of alarm as she slammed her clipboard down on his head.
"I know what I have to say might not seem all that important, but at least give me some respect and pretend what I do DOES matter to you!" She said waspishly.
"Aw, but Sakura-chan that's not it at--"
"SHUT UP AND LISTEN!"
"Guaaa---yes ma'am!"

Inspiration
During his second trial of the chunnin exams, Naruto was nervous because he was so obviously the oldest one there. He looked at all the people watching him.
Then he saw Sakura-chan waving and smiling and he wasn’t nervous anymore.
Comfort
When Naruto’s body gets battered, Sakura-chan first starts to yell (because she's scared and she wants to always help him and he's so...!). Then she shakes her head, she teases him for his stupidity, his overdoing it. She teases him for the brightness in his eyes and the quaver in his voice (You only fractured ten bones you big baby!) because his ego is just that huge.
Then she washes it, applies the very best of her antiseptics and finest bandages, and with more focus than she’ll give anyone else. She massages the sore muscles and aching bones with her chakra until his face practically purrs in contentment.
“There, you goof, good as new,” she says, and ruffles his hair, making him grin and laugh, because yes, he knows he's more often than that aaasss future Hokage and all.
When Sakura’s heart gets battered, Naruto starts to yell and wave his arms at who or what hurt her (because he's scared that one day he won't be able to help her and that's just...!). Then he thinks for a moment, he says something stupid, something to make her to hit him. He spars against her like an equal and lets a genuinely nervous laugh enter his voice (she really could kill him--with one finger) because her self-confidence is just that small.
"I love you," she says today. "You're my best friend, even if I'm not yours." His eyes meet that spot on her shoulder and his stomach twists, because yes, he's knows that well enough.
Then, when she’s spent and shaking and tired, he tugs the top of her hair under his chin and kisses her wrist with more gentleness he could give anyone else, his arms protective around her back, until she looks content too.
You Are My Sunshine
Every once in a while they walk home together during late afternoon. The sunsets in summer Hidden Leaf at that time are usually beautiful (if Naruto were smarter, Sakura would have suspected he planned it).
Usually, Naruto runs on ahead, smiling or teasing or sulking playfully when she says she won’t call their ramen nights ‘dates’ unless it was insanity.
Usually Sakura is relaxed--taking long, unhurried strides as Naruto runs circles around her--mellow from a long day at the hospital and amused at his infinite stamina.
But today the clouds are heavy and gray, and they are in a hurry to get home.
Without warning, the ominous sky cracks into drizzles.
Seconds later, it pours.
There's no umbrella, so Sakura curses angrily and Naruto groans; but then he gives in to nature and laughs: going in teasing, splashing circles around Sakura, blue eyes alight with the promise of fun.
Sakura joins reluctantly, feeling foolish, but soon she is laughing, too.

"Comfort" - Just in case you didn't know, wrist = vital arteries = heart. I thought it was cute but I might shoot myself for being so sentimental... *grumbles*
"You Are My Sunshine" was inspired by a NaruSaku pic where Naruto had an Uzamaki umbrella walking her home. Aw. :)
